Student with phone/broadband confusion

Well, as the title suggests, I'm a student and I, foolishly, offered to sort out the phone and broadband situation for our house this year. I've been trawling the internet for a while now and can't find a suitable deal. We need to activate the phone line and get broadband, so I thought the tiscali broadband and talk package would be good, but it says that it's a minimum 18 month contract, when we're only going to be living in the house for at the most, 12 months, but probably closer to 9. Also, we all have mobiles, so will probably avoid using the landline as much as possible.
As I've never had to deal with this kind of thing before, I realise I'm probably missing something obvious and would really appreciate some helpful advice to sort this out.
