Help - seller's listing removed after I purchased !

Hello I'm a newbie to this board, got disillusioned with ebay in my ebay shop, powerselling days and avoided it for awhile. However, after forgetting not once but twice to not record the latest episodes of Lost series 2. I looked on ebay to see what was around and stop the OH whinging !

I saw a listing for 4 Lost Series 2 dvds episodes 1-15 advertised at a BIN price of £9.98, the dvds were printed and the seller had good feedback. So I bought them as had about 10 other people. I paid immediately by paypal that was 3 days ago. Today I went into my won items on my ebay page and it was blank  so I checked my paypal receipt and entered the item number it stated that the listing had been removed.

I have emailed the seller twice but no response - what can I do ? can I do a chargeback to get my money back ?

many thanks welshy xxx

Have you checked your paypal (not ebay) account? What does that say?

Hiya yes I have checked it and the money has been taken out and credited to the seller. The thing is the seller hasn't been booted off ebay and has created a me page but is now not selling anything. If he had contacted me to explain the problem I would be less jumpy but as he is not replying to my emails I am supsicious.

If you don't receive it you will be able to start a paypal dispute, but you'll have to wait a bit (is it 7 days, I can't remember). I suspect when you get it (if you get it) it will be a bootleg copy, and that's why the listing has been removed. Ebay seem exceptionally quick off the mark (hours rather than days) to remove these. However, I would suggest you check the dispute console on paypal - there may be a way to start this faster which would be advisable. Maybe you can get the payments frozen before they leave the sellers account.

Hello jenniferpa thank you for the advice and taking the time to post. I will have a look at the dispute console on paypal and see what advice is on there.

In the absence of the thank you button (which I am really missing) here's my thanks

I thought of something else - if you can't get the dispute console to allow you to start this process at this time, you should definitely email them to tell them what has happened for the reasons I gave above. Also, you should be able to obtain a contact telephone number for your seller via ebay. Perhaps a phone call will either result in you getting your money back or the product in question.

You can do a dispute straight away if the seller is not replying to your emails. They then have 10 days in which to respond. If they do not respond in that time paypal finds in your favour. I am just going through the same thing at the moment. This is the second time it has happended to me. Don't get too excited though because if ebay finds for you, you get your money back less fees for paypal which was about £15.00 if I remember correctly if the seller has emptied and closed their paypal account. If there account is still active you get your money back (all of it from what I understand)

Wendy, I thought the £15 was the deduction that ebay made if you went through their buyer's protection, not a charge from paypal. In other countries, paypal DO levy this (or a similar) charge, but I didn't think they did in the U.K.

This has happened to me a few times recently, all but once the sellers still sent the item. The one time they didn't left it about a week then went through paypal's resolution process and got a full refund (no £15 fee) within 2 hours. Below is what I wrote in the file a claim box your welcome to copy / edit it.

"Item purchased of ebay and payed for immediately. Listing was subsequently removed by ebay hence no recourse through feedback system so seller has presumably decided there is no need to send item. Have contacted seller on several occasions with no reply. Barring intial contact to confirm my question that item would be still be sent (after listing removal ) reply was in the affirmative and that it had already been sent. If so never recieved."

I am not sure. All I know is the buyer did not send the goods to many people (lots of angry feedback all in a few days!). Paypal found in my favour. The goods cost £24.50. All I got back was £9.50 and an email to say that I will get the rest if they trace the buyer!. Someone on here explained why the fee was taken. Maybe you get it all if the buyer has money in the account and they take the fee when the buyer has done a runner. If the item was just removed because they copied someones else photo or something similar and it is not a scam you will get either your goods or your money back.

This was the explanation I got.

The reason you got £9.50 back is because its £24.50 - £15 ebay admin fee (they obviously had no money in their paypal a/c - as it was a con, so ebay give you compensation less £15)
