Student looking for a bit of advice and help :)

Hello everyone,

First of all my I say i used this site quite alot and read alot of the forums and found quite a vast bit of infomation but only just now decided to to join.

Now my problem I have.

Ive just finshed my HND in Computer Technology (and I think ive passed may I add !! ;) ) and well ive decided to become a teacher. Now for me to become a teacher in the quickest (and cheapest) possible way would be to go through a Bed (Bachlor of Eduction Degree). I have the knowlodge so forth to become a teacher so gettin on the course is not a problem.
The actual problem is, well have you seen all these adverts on the televison and billboards etc become a teacher and get so much money etc etc. Well ive been told this is only availble to PCGE students, now i cant see how this is fair to be honest, isnt this false advertising because I cant see that anywhere on there website or on the televison or billboards etc. I come out of the BeD with QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) just the same as a PCGE student so why can they qualify and I can not ?

Anyone any suggestions, btw I have already got my place on the BeD and filled in my PN1 4 next year (not sent of as of yet so can be changed !).

Ok... On to my second problem (this could be in wrong section and sorry if it is !!!)

Ive been charged by my bank on more then one time about overdrawn fee's (goin over overdrath) and also on when ive used my card (thinking money was on it) and its been accept on a five to ten pound transaction and ive been over my overdrath limit. The actual chargers add up to roughly 150 GBP maybe more. Does anyone have any idea if I can claim these back... If I was at my overdrath limit shouldn't they just declein the transaction ?

Thats my rant over with now.

Any help would be fantasic from anyone... off to work tomorrow so hopefully someone shud of answered my then. I hope so.

Daz

In answer to your first query, the whole point of the £6000 grant for the PGCE is to attract graduates to teaching who might otherwise have decided to do something else. Is it false advertising? Well, no. It's a graduate scheme, and that is made clear if you look any further into it. It's tough I agree, but if you're doing a BEd you should be able to get some help from your LEA, plus you'll come out of it with, arguably, a better degree for teaching - you'll have more practice, more experience and a wider knowledge of the subjects you want to teach. Good luck!

As for your second question, you probably should be able to get the charges back; there's undoubtedly somewhere on the website explaining how (I would look it up but need to go and make my dinner now!). Good luck with that too, £150 is a lot of money!

Another route would be to do the BA in Computer Science (1/2yr as you already have the HND) and then you would be a graduate and eligible for the PGCE course, you would have to teach something IT for the qualification but can apply for other specialisms once you've qualified.

oh - and I think you mean overdraft, not overdrath - just might help when talking to the bank
