I wouldn't send them for an evening do. If I received a 'Save the date' I'd be expecting to be invited to the whole day.

We're getting married on 22 May 2010 and I sent ours out a couple of weeks ago. We're only having a small do - 26 for whole day and another 25 at night - so I made two slightly different ones. On the ones for the 26 I just put pleasesave the date, and on the ones for the evening people I put Evening invitation to follow so they were aware of it.
  • I wouldn't expect a save the date for an evening do. For a whole day one, I'd say a year in advance is the maximum to send out a save the date. Actual invites, around 6 weeks before the day.
  • really? Wow our wedding is 2011, I'm gonna send them out as soon as they arrive :)
I'm wainting for them to turn up.

Mind you our lot go on holidays around then...
They tend to book in advance.

Why dont you send, Save the Night cards?

    Put something like..

    Save the Night
Rene and Gaz are getting married
    2nd July 2010
    Formal Evening Invites to Follow

I would understand that i was invited to the evening if i received that through the post
What matters most is how well you walk through the fire
  • HI, I WOULDN'T SEND THEM UNTIL 2010. LET EVERYONE SEE THE YEAR OUT(LOTS OF UNCERTAINTY, PEOPLE MAY NOT KNOW WHERE THEY WILL BE SO FAR IN ADVANCE eg MOVING FOR WORK,SELLING HOMES), JANUARY EVERYONE IS DOWN IN THE DUMPS, MAKING RESOLUTIONS ETC..THE END OF JANUARY MIGHT SPUR THE ONES ON WANTING TO LOOSE WEIGHT AS A RESOLUTION, OR JUST CHEER A FEW PEOPLE UP. MAYBE 14TH FEBUARY AS AN ARRIVAL DATE WOULD BE SPECIAL.. SPREAD THE LOVE XX ANYWAY CONGRATULATIONS AND ENJOY.

I'd be a bit upset if I got invited to the evening do and also strung onto the end that I could go and watch the ceremony, okay I know the ceremony is the important bit, but as a whole I'd expect to go to the ceremony, meal and party or just the party.
