Whatever you do, do not, i repeat DO NOT leave course work to the last minute, I know it seem like a good idea at the time but it really really isn't. Just get it done and hand it in and then you can relax in the knowledge that it's all done...
Hope everyones course work/exams are all going ok

Nope.. All the staff are on strike. No one is marking exams...
The chancellors of the uni have stated all students will be getting predicted degree grades to tie them over for job applications/MSc applications until the matter is resolved. The predictions will be based on results of year 1 and 2, which have previously been declared as counting for nothing (0% of degree).
As a result, my 1st class degree (what I was hoping to get this year) will now be a 2:2 (average of 1st 2 years, when I was intentionally lazy during, safe in the knowledge the results counted for nothing), until such a time as the matter is resolved and they can mark the exams. That result with then override any previous prediction.
Until they pull their fingers out and do that (could well be months away), I'm going to have a hard time finding a job.
It doesn't help when I say I think I'll get a 1st, and the uni say their official prediction is a 2:2.
This also means they now have a vested interest in the final results being along the same lines as the predicted ones. Afterall, if you predict a student will get a 2:2 (and prevent him applying to good jobs for 3-4 months), then give them a 1st (after eventually marking the 3rd year stuff), you are wide open to a 3-4 months loss of earnings court case.
This now means that I won't be trusting the final result anyway. Basically, I'm screwed either way because my level 1 and level 2 average isn't that great. Even if I do pull of a fantastic final year result, it won't be in the university's best interest to tell me.
Utter bunch of sods... I feel a court case coming on.0 -
... sorry to hear that, it makes the fact that I'm still trying to finish something thats due in in oh about 8 hours not seem so bad, hope it all works out

Oh well, thats the final exam done and dusted... Guess its all in the hands of the striking lecturers and their wacky predictions.
Now... onto job hunting.
Anyone wanna hire me? I'm really good at stuff, honest.

i can't believe they are pn strike, i am not impressed, they are upsetting the students, surely they could have made their point at a less important time for us, this is our lives they are mucking about with, can't get input on work because no one is there.

heh.
that's nothing. On thursday I had a web project due in. I was working all day so had to hand it in before work at 8am. The day before it was not finished. I worked from about 9.30am til 3am the next morning and it still wasn't good enough but I had to get a couple hours sleep, hand it in and then work a full day. grrr.0 -
Are you a student, or a mother? :rotfl:matL wrote:Whatever you do, do not, i repeat DO NOT leave course work to the last minute, I know it seem like a good idea at the time but it really really isn't. Just get it done and hand it in and then you can relax in the knowledge that it's all done...
Throughout the entire 5.5 weeks of the Easter break I gently enquired whether DS1 had started any of the three bits of coursework he'd mentioned to me. He left them all until he went back, at which point I think he had a week to do them all, and described one as 'possibly the worst piece of work I've ever handed in.'
Still, his education, not mine!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

My plan was to keep this thread at the top of the board so that I would read it next time and not leave my work until the last minute.
Just thought I'd hand the advice on to anyone who was in a position to do something about it.
Still not as bad as one of my friends...
Thanks for makin me laugh! (even if it was at myself)
