What to do if the Kitchen Sink is larger than then cabinet size below it?

Hi folks, Is it at all possible to fit say a kitchen sink (e.g. one and a half or double bowl) that required an 800mm base into a 600mm base?

I had a (dodgy lookin) kitchen planner come round a few months back and he mentioned something about doing this by cutting the wall of the say 600mm base unit and the one next to it!??!!

Surely this would weaken the unit? (vital - esp when i want HEAVY granite worktops on top!)

cheers...

Yes you can do it as the planner said. It will weaken the unit and it is a bit of a bodge but I have done this once and it worked fine. With the granite on top it is going to be a bit more of a gamble though.

If there is no way around using a larger unit or smaller sink then maybe the unit could be reinforced?

it can be done and I might do this myself. If you're worried about your granite, run a reinforcing baton along the rear edge and screw through the cabinet into the wall.

i think a smaller sink would be the wisest and all round less risky option - although the baton/screw idea by Wig is very good.

wouldnt wana risk it with £100's worth of granite now would we! lol.
