Any advice on card fraud protection insurance?

Thanks to Martin, I seem to have quite a few bank and credit cards being juggled now. All very nice but if these were to get nicked or the numbers stolen, I suspect someone could run up a fair amount of spending before I reported it (or even found out!). Also, with chip and pin, it seems to be very difficult to prove if a card was misused or not. Bring back the signature!

Does anyone have recommendations on insurance which covers theft/loss and fraudulent misuse? Alliance and Leicester offered something when I joined, I think, but it was really expensive and I dodn't pay much attention. I'd want something that covered all my cards, with several banks, if it was worthwhile.

Most credit cards have fraud insurance included in them automatically (at least my RBS & Halifax ones do).

Debit cards are a bit more of an issue as some card companies have an "excess" of £50 or so but these are still a minority and given the average person checks their bank balance fairly regularly rather than just the once a month statement you are much more likely to spot it earlier.

I havent seen any counter fraud insurance that I would want to go out and buy personally - the ones I have seen only really seem to offer "fighting your cause" aspect but the 2 times my card has been subject to fraud it has been a painless experience to sort it out myself.
