Silicon around bath with shower

I replaced the silicon around the bath just over a year ago. We have a shower above the bath and the silicon has gone black in parts. I could replace it, but I guess the same is going to happen. Any ideas about how to stop the black from reappearing? Is there better silicon I should be using?

Quality of silicone is important. It also depends on whether you cleaned away all of the old silicone. a quick going over with new stuff is no good.

Clean away all silicone from around the bath. Allow the area to be completely dry. Fill the bath. Apply new silicone and allow to dry.
Try not to allow water to collect around the sides of the bath and the silicone will last longer.
I find wickes bathroom sealant to be about the best of the non branded names.

The single most common cause of this is lack of ventilation not poor quality of silicone. If there isn't an extractor fan in your shower/bathroom, install one, preferably directly above the shower.

All the damage is done in the 20 minutes after the shower has been taken rather than during the actual shower.

Also next time you seal it, go to a good tiling supplier or Plumbers merchant and ask for Dow Corning 785 Sanitary sealant, it is the best product available for this.
