Tightening a window hinge

Hi. I wonder if anyone could help me please. We've got a problem with one of our UPVC double glazed windows. It opens sideways (like a door) but the hinges are like a lattice of metal at the top and bottom. All our other windows are stiffish to open, so you push them open to the amount you require, and they stay in that position. This window is much looser, so if there's a bit of wind, it blows the window right open.

I'm sure there must be a screw to tighten somewhere on those bits of latticed metal so they stiffen up, but I just can't find one. So please can anyone tell me how to stop the window flying open so easily?

It's probably staring me in the face but I would like to know as well, hardwood double glazed window but opens/swings the other way from bottom up.

Its quite loose and when closed there is a gap at the top.
  • misty-mitts - There is a tiny grub screw on the small plastic block that slides along the channel in the frame. Tighten this slightly to increase the friction.

fiddiwebb - Your problem sounds more like a worn hinge. When they wear out, the 'hinged side' (the top in your case) doesn't locate into itself, which means it doesn't pull the window in tight.

Thanks markie, looks like I will need to buy a new hinge.
  • Markie - you are a hero! Thanks very much indeed.
