How can I invest in the DOW JONES please?

I want to diversify my investments away from FTSE and GBP.

Is there a low cost tracker fund which tracks the DOW? Ideally I would also like any returns to be in USD as I don't want all my investments to be in GBP.

Many thanks!

Your best option would be to use an ETF. (there are many threads on the subject on the forum, if you do a forum search, and you can now access Vantage Funds in the UK too)

I would also suggest that you look at the S&P 500 rather than the DJIA as it is a broader Index, and better representative of large cap stocks and the US economy as a whole. There are of course many other US Index's that you could track.

  • I've searched and also Googled and come up with this:

    __________uk.ishares.com/en/rc/funds/IUSA

(links are not allowed on here in case they are spam - so to see the product I found please replace the _____ with an http://

Is this the type of fund? It says Domicile 'Irish' - is that significant in any way. I assume it is not dependent in any way on the Irish economy or financial system given the concerns there?

I looked at the choice of funds and to a non-expert the choice is bewildering and impenetrable!

I want something like an index tracker, I won’t be making lots of deposits or withdrawals, just lump sums then leaving them (only taking the money out if I think we’re near a peak and want to take profits). So not regular.

So is this the type of fund that will do what I want?

This is a list of the 115 different ETF than track US Equity markets.

If you chose to track the S&P 500 you could use this i-shares ETF

Yes. An ETF is a very efficient way to track a particular Index and usually have low management fees, especially for lump sums.
