Water Pump on way out
Hi
Just got my car bak from the garage, head gasket HAS NOT blown as first thought however they have told me the water pump is on its way out and will need replacing, like yesterday!
However I forgot to ask, how long/far can I drive it like it for?:o
Can anyone tell me how far I can drive it and also the best way to, i.e maybe stop every 15-20 miles as I have to do a 55 mile trip tomorrow, its a must!
All advice welcome

Dont risk driving it that sort of distance with a dodgy water pump. Its not worth the hassle.
Any good garage should be able to get a new part and fit it for you today. Get the cambelt and kit done at the same time.0 -
if it needed replacing yesterday, dont drive it today0

I cannot believe that anyone would even consider driving a car any distance with a faulty water pump, get it changed immediately.
They don't cost a fortune.0 -
A friend of mine had a water pump sieze, an Audi I think, & as it was driven by the cambelt it took that with it  Ended up being eye wateringly expensive.
Get it fixed ASAP or sooner.Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -

if you do the journey you may then find the head gasket will need replacing after all....work permit granted!0

TMost cars run the water pump off the cam belt so you are also riskng cambelt failure also and poddible head gasket due to poor circulation. some VAG cars have a plastic impeller and when this comes off you will cook the head gasket and then wont ket much change from £600 + and if the cam belt brakes then £900+
DON DRIVE IT GET IT CHANGED OR YOU'LL BE VERY SORRYIf Carling made web-sites this would proberly be the best website in the world :T

yep happened to a few vag cars owned by workmates, yet they still bang on about how reliable and well engineered their cars are:rotfl:0 -
Drive it as far as you like then with luck the car will die and you can put it out it's misery. You can then spend lots of money and get another one.
Think that is what the OP wants to hear....
So come on guys stop being so negative ..;)0 -
Rover 214 with overheat problems. If it is not dead now it will be if you drive it any distance.0
