Setting up a HTML mailing list on a phpBB forum?

Hi all, hope someone here can help, I already have a mass mailer as part of the phpBB forum (up to date with the latest release) but want to be able to send HTML emails using the list, not just text ones.
The MODs I can find all ask me to edit files which aren't installed such as includes/acp/acp_board.php, do I need to install a different version? Are there any simple MODs?
Alternatively what suggestions do people have for setting up a free or relatively cheap HTML mailing list? something people can register for on the front page of a website, and I'd be able to add a large number of addresses to that we already have?

its pretty simple code to make a mailing list, i can write it up for you to show how its done
