  • Hi A11ways, i thought you did, but having looked HERE it seems you don't have to be.
    Hth.
The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter :(

..it doesn't say it is excluded from the below list]
I was probably thinking of the Community Care Grant, yes sounds as though OP is eligible.

Community Care Grant worth checking out though because it doesn't have to be paid back.
    Torgwen.......... :) ...........
  • Thanks everyone for your replies.

I got awarded enough to cover the minimum deliver of oil 500ltrs, which is about 188 pounds. She said she doesnt know how long this will last, but will take us out the immediate crisis. I got the cheque at 2pm from jobcentre and was able to go straight down and get the oil ordered and paid for delivery tomorrow!

I had considered a community care grant, but because of how ill me and my daughter had been - I couldnt really wait and would rather she was well and pay it back :)

Massive sigh of relief from this end. Now I need to concentrate on keeping the heat in! so any suggestions on draft proofing etc would be fab

    Thanks everyone
Yes im disabled....yes I can do things you cant....but you can do things I cant so were equal! :D
  • Look at the Warm Front grant only if you are not in a council house.

My oil ran out last week unexpectedly. We moved in here July and this is the first oil heating we have had.

We had money put by to fill the tank, but my partner took it when he left us after a domestic assault. I am currently waiting on my own claim of income support, and a reclaim of tax credits since he has now left the household.

I now live here with my 9 month old daughter, I am 15 weeks pregnant and disabled. I have for the past week been trying to just wrap us up warm and make do like that, but we are now ill with colds and I have a chest infection so I have to do something.

Im wondering if I can get a crisis loan to fill the tank? or if there is other help I could get to help me in this difficult situation?

    Thanks
How awful you poor thing, I have no practical advice have some ((((hugs))) instead, chin up chick x

Have you joined your local freecyle (on yahoo groups) as you might be able to pick up a heater of some sort (make sure safe of course) on there ?

  • Warm Front provide many forms of draught proofing free of charge to those on benefits.
I believe a boiler if you have no heating, cavity wall insulation, loft insulation and insulation around windows.
As for freecycle an online site where people give or ask for free items. It is brill. I have given and received many items and the only criteria is they have to be free.

What Warm Front can do differs according to whether you own or rent the property.

  • I would seriously urge caution re:buying a portable calor gas heater, especially where there are young children,i once had the misfortune to see someone very very badly burned by one of these mobile death traps
