Angry with dealer

  • Further to Alan M's post: I'm wondering if that might sound a little harsh for this customer. If I read the original posting correctly, the customer was being told 10th May by the dealer all the way through the leadtime, but on that actual date it suddenly elongated by a further 7-8 weeks (another full build leadtime), leaving the customer stuck. If true, he was clearly misled.

It has been known by dealers for some time that Trafic production is currently very delayed (availability is currently July onwards) so whoever this dealer is would have been in a position to advice the customer fairly accurately on a long lead-time, even if the order was placed back in March. Renault dealers are usually very good at this, so this case, if accurately described, is unusual.

All Renault dealers can see where a vehicle is whilst it is on order by checking it one factory build system, so if someone at the dealership had checked it regularly they should have been able to give the customer decent warning of the vehicle being way off their original estimated delivery date.

If the customer can show he's had misleading or unrealistic advice or information when placing his order he should always be able to feel he can ask for re-dress, and clearly the dealer has offered a loan vehicle, albeit one unsuitable for the job he needs it for.

    Ok guys,
    Here's the latest update.
My current van sale has fallen through as the buyer has sold their 4X4 and cannot be vehicle-less for 4 weeks. My van dealer has offered me a very unsuitable Scenic and I have declined this and informed them of my van sale situation.
Should I expect any type of redress for this situation be that financial or otherwise????
Dealdriver, your assessment of my situation is completely accurate.
I was assured up until the very last minute that my new van would arrive on time. Had the dealers not been so confident with the delivery date, I would not have made arrangements to sell my current van.
Thanks for the many(very interesting) responses.

If the Renault dealer was willing to give me a Scenic for a month to allow my van sale to go through. What do you feel they will be willing to offer me now my van sale has fallen through due to their failue to deliver my trafic on the date promised?
    Appreciate any and alll advice!!

IMO, this has gone from I have a problem due to a car sale and my impending van sale meaning I have no vehicle because they haven't delivered on time to...

... what can I get out of this situation. Sorry if its not that way but it sounds it. You now have your van, so use it, and wait for your trafic.

The downside of me losing out on my van sale is a financial one.
I was selling my van plus fitted cages to person who needed it for her dogs and who sold her 4X4 on the basis that I would have my Trafic and so the chain was broken by the Renault dealer..
I was able to get a higher than book price for my van- as it has fitted cages worth £700+.
Now as you are no doubt aware these cages are as good as scrap metal to another buyer who does not need them. So I have lost out and the chances of me finding another person looking for a van with fitted cages is slim, very, very slim.
So that is the reason I am now angry and looking for some recompense from the dealer who assured me my Trafic would arrive on time!
If they had not been so adamant of the delivery date, my buyer would still have her 4X4 and be waiting for my van!
