I think it's a Torbay Palm in it's early stages. My Mum and Dad have got one in their garden. It's also about to flower by the look of it.
I found this info on the net:
Torbay palm is the common name given to Cordyline australis in this part of the world, as up to the latter part of last century it was only seen on the warmer southwest coast of this country. Now with milder winters it is enjoying a rapid spread north. Gardeners are much faster than nature to test the limits of a plants endurance. Still a borderline subject for me, but now reaching the stage where growth becomes more rapid. It's a cordyline. I have three in my front garden - if you live in Bournemouth, you have to have a few palm trees around the place! Actually, I bought my first one as a pot plant for £2.99 in B & Q in South Wimbledon and planted it outside because I thought it might grow here... as it's now eight feet tall, the answer was obvioiusly yes! :rolleyes:0
