Have decided to go for a duel core Toshiba Laptop & can get 10% off Tesco's making any a great price as they seem to be keenly priced already.
These 3
Toshiba A500-15M T6500 4GB 500GB 16" Laptop
Toshiba L300-243 QL-64 3GB 250GB 15.4" Laptop
Toshiba Satellite L500-11R 15.6" Laptop
stand out at their different levels. Any pointers on what to go for/what to avoid ?
I'd post the Tesco's compare link but can't.
No real gaming only normal use but it would be kept for a few years (hopefully !) Would like to spend as little as possible but don't want to regret buying too cheap.
Thanks in advance  for any pointers as it will be our first Laptop

Ohh & no fighting with me, I don't have a plane to catch0

Try a Clevo... asininity tells me they are great whilst running UBUNTU.
Yes, I know that you have never heard of them, but why not splash out on some unknown brand?
After all it's your money not his.0 -
For a more serious reply.....
If you don't have any special needs, take the cheapest. It's good enough. But isn't it out of stock?
I'm sure many here can tell you how laptops they spent a fortune on years ago are now worthless.
Get one that suits your needs at the lowest price. If your needs change in some years, pass it on and buy another good quality machine at low cost. It will have just as good, if not better specs than the expensive one you were thinking of purchasing previously.
I really do have a flight to catch, but I'm a bit laid back about these things. Will continue to think about packing.0 -
A few random comments:
- the A500 is a premium product
- have you checked on the screen resolutions, if you want the highest possible?
- any need to actually carry it around with you, or will it stay at home? Check weights.
- the 'free' upgrade to Windows 7 (if the laptop qualifies) is £27.90. Yes! (Some time) after 22 October it would come installed, rather than Vista... So worth waiting?

Toshiba are generally a good brand, we have 3 of their laptops here.
To be honest all are more than adequate, their specs are all better than the £600 Satellite I purchased 18 months ago. One thing I do like about my 17" Satellite though is it comes with harmon/kardon speakers and a dedicated graphics card, great for playing DVD's. It isn't exactly portable though and it has a very short battery life, perfect for what I want though (I have a netbook for out and about).
I agree it would be worth waiting a month to get a computer with Windows 7 installed.0 -
Bought the L300 from Tesco a few weeks ago £365. Nice laptop loads of ram and hard drive for my use. Built in webcam etc. Only thing missing is the hdmi socket, told by salesman that this was included but not fitted to my model.0

Hard to take your advice seriously little man.
@The OP.
Try finding the models on online stores I can't imagine Tescos being the cheapest, also I'd consider acer as well.0 -
I found cheaper laptops with same ram, processor and hardrive but most only came with Vista home which means that you are unable to upgrade to Windows 7 foc unlike Tesco's Vista premium and Windows 7 free upgrade.0
