new style allotmenters

I agree, tidying up plots over time is a good thing....who wants a load of allotments that look like dumps? A decent shed can make all the difference to the overall plot enjoyment.0

i think people have mistook my post and seem to think i am having a go or being judgemental
i was only raising a point about new style allotment'ers and what i thought was the " allotment way " which to me is to recycle and try and do it a bit greener0 -
I've had my allotment for 9 years now and make do with the shed that came with it, which is so overgrown with ivy that you can't even see it's there so it doesn't matter that it doesn't have a door. Unfortunately the roof leaks a bit so it's not a great place to take shelter when it rains.
Next year might be when I finally get around to forking out on a new shed because I'd like someplace nice to sit when it rains and my daughter could use it for a Wendy house too. I've never seen any second hand ones on our Freecycle boards. We couldn't collect the pieces in our car anyway.
I read a magazine article a few years back about allotments somewhere in Europe -- the Netherlands or Germany, maybe. People had very fancy sheds, practically huts and I think they were even allowed to sleep there overnight. It was a completely different attitude to having an allotment, it was almost a home away from home. I thought it looked quite idyllic myself.
When I first moved to the UK I remember my OH driving us past some allotments and I thought it was a squatters' camp for homeless people...0 -

It's certainly true in parts of Germany, where the whole family may spend the weekend on their plots. I think they are usually more like gardens (with lawns etc) than allotments though!0 -
My family are Austrian and we have spent many an hour in my uncle and aunt's "allotment" in the heart of Vienna. As said above, it is more of a garden with lawn, mature trees, flowers and a very small veg area.
The shed is certainly wooden, but it is a two bedroomed log cabin with kitchen and shower room. My uncle has had it for nearly forty years and although he lives within walking distance, he spends very little time in his cramped third floor flat.
I'm pleased to say our shed is being delivered on Tuesday after having had the allotment for nearly a year! Redundancy money has it's advantages. :jMaking magic with fabricLight travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.0 -
My FIL has an allotment, we are planning on getting together as a family to buy him a shed, a new shed, for christmas. Partly as it should make his life easier but it will deffinatly make my MIL life easier as she won't have to give him a lift everyday as he will have somewhere to store his tools as well as somewhere to shelter from the rainFashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent
