Some of the classified ad sites such as free ads will show 070 numbers. With most of the others you aren't given a contact number for the seller. You have to e-mail them and ask for a contact number, and they will then give you a 070 number. I have spoken to the police internet fraud department, and they are now looking into it.0 -
Except they don't. Charges are between 10p and 50p per minute from a BT line, depending on the the first 5 or 6 numbers.

Not saying there isn't a scam (although I will agree with a previous poster, who on earth would buy a pet through the classified ads), exaggerating the numbers isn't necessary.
We are talking about 070 and not 0870 numbers.0 -

Could you provide the full 070xxx code that is 123p. The only calls I can see that price are code P33, which are to certain 09xxxx numbers.Tim_Deegan wrote: »We are talking about 070 and not 0870 numbers.
Err, yes. You do know how much 0870 numbers cost, don't you.0 -

I contacted Virgin and they said that 070 numbers charge between £1 and £1.50 per minErr, yes. You do know how much 0870 numbers cost, don't you.
Yes, and we aren't even discussing them. We are talking about fraudsters using 070 numbers which most people thing are just normal mobile numbers.0 -

And you believed something Virgin told you. Best joke I have heard today.

So who would you call to ask phone charges.....the doctor?
Ok so they start at 50p (give or take). That is still a premium rate that the scammers make money from. The 070 phone numbers are only half of the scam, but it's the one that most people could fall for.0 -
If I wanted to know what anything wasn't, I would ask Virgin Media. Your doctor probably does have a better idea of call charges than VM's staff. (can you tell I am am a VM customer and have experienced the dizzying heights of their customer service).
If I really wanted to know what their phone charges were I would look it up on their web site, which took me less than a minute.
Anyway, as I said up there, I am not saying there isn't a scam, but there are too many posts where the costs are exaggerated.0 -

I know exactly what you mean about VM. The service is good while it works, but if you get a problem..........
As you would expect the operator was in a call centre on the other side of the world, and was difficult to understand. What I did under stand was that it is a premium rate number, and that it can cost up to £150 per min ( i know this would depend on the numbers following 070).
There is also another scam involving 070 numbers. You receive a dropped call, so you call them back, and it costs you a fortune.
When I used to be with Orange I nearly fell for this one, but Orange were on to it, and before they connected you there was a message warning about the premium rates.0
