If the motor/drive has expired (causing the fuse to blow) then source a replacement from a scrap yard/breakers or look into reconditioned from somewhere like powersteeringservices.co.ukHappy chappy0

The punto has a thermal cut out, if your using the 'light' mode and shunting around trying to park it will cut out when it gets hot.0

Thanks for everyones help. The motor had cooled down this morning and worked for about 10 seconds , then stopped again, but it is not hot now but won't work. Dpoes anybody know where the thermal cut out is, is it on the ecu for the steering?
Thanks0 -
.Electric Steering ????
I had a new puto on hire 2 weeks ago the steering felt very odd - like there was a "jelly" between the steering wheel and the wheels - this could explain this. It also Failed on me twice at low speed - I had to restart the car to activate the steering.
Do any other cars have this - my wife has a Fabia and me an Alhambra - they seem very precise.0 -
a lot of new cars now use electric steering, the thermal cut out is built in to the motor but works via the ecu. if you need to replace the motor its very easy you just undo the three bolts that hold it on but you may need to loosen the lower part of the cowling to pull it out.
