It's that time of year again....bang

Options
I am a fan of the "Preparing for Winter" thread on the OS board as I feel the cold dreadfully, as I know many others here do, particularly the less mobile.

It has helped me with lots of tips to keep the house warm and the heating bills down so that I'm quite looking forwards to the darker nights snuggled up warm.......except for one thing.......Bonfire Night.

I know that the regulations mean that fireworks are sold nearer the actual date nowadays but the bangs still seems to go on for weeks.

I have friends with Guide dogs and Hearing dogs and this time of year is always a worry for them.

I know I may get flamed for being a party-pooper but quite honestly I hate fireworks.I wish there were only public displays and were not on sale to the general public.

I totally agree with you, Waggle Dancer. I have dogs to stay with me when their owners want to go away, but don't want to put them in kennels, and I'm very apprehensive about fireworks. If I get a very nervous dog staying, I could be in for problems.

In any case, an organised display is surely more fun; there's a party atmosphere, and (usually) the display is well done. I don't know why people want to do their own, tbh.
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)
  • I too think that fireworks should now be organised displays, we have an old dog (rescued) who is terrified of any noise, we normally give her a sedative on bonfire night, but they have already started round here, and we cannot give her a sedative every night before November 5th:mad:

Already? You poor thing. I'm not sure on the law but aren't there only certain times when they can be used?

Saying that, the ones who make a nuisance of themselves with fireworks are not likely to take notice of laws are they?

I hope your dog is ok. I too have an very old rescue, had her for 14 years now. Might be better if she went deaf as she got older!

You got that right! Thankfully we haven't had then round here - YET. But when they do start, it's even during daylight hours, so it's got to be yobs letting them off. No sensible person is going to let off fireworks til after dark, right?
