£750 Gas usage over 6 months with Swalec?

It is getting a little confusing.
However if you cleared your debt with SWALEC when you left in Jan 09(by paying the £110), all you need to know is the meter reading in March 2009 when you returned.
If your present reading is 4004 then you subtract the March 2009 meter reading to give the amount of metric gas unit. You multiply that total by 11.2 to get the number of kWh you have used.
Your £750 total indicated you have used 22,400kWh in 6 months - or more if you have discounts applied.
That is a huge amount in 6 summer months.
You really need to get the March 2009 reading clarified as that seems to be the probable error.0 -
Albyota- Im not sure how you have come to the conclusion that we do owe this?
Cardew- I think I have figured what has gone wrong, looking at previous bills (the ones I have available) when we left them in Jan 09 we gave a reading of 2586.
When I spoke to Swalec earlier they confirmed they based the owing amount on a starting unit of 1283, which is obviously incorrect as it was 2586 in Jan so couldnt have gone backwards. I have only just found this end reading in Jan. So hopefully when I quote them the previous account number and they have proof of a much higher reading back in Jan they will accept the reading in March was wrong, whether it was an error on our behalf or Swalecs im not sure but its a matter of trying to figure out what the opening unit number was in march I suppose.
I suppose the only way to do that is to try and get the close unit balance from the previous provider?
So if thats correct from Jan 09 to date we have used 711 units rather than the 2014 that Swalec is billing us for.
...........I think lol0 -
Cardew- Our currenr reading today is 3297, the 4004 units is what Swalec quoted me as my usage between March 09 to date. Although looking at that it doesnt quite figure we he got that from?
Oh my god im just confusing myself and everyone even more!0 -
phew, well that was a bit confusing for all of us, hope your right, and 711 is much better than 4004, again good luck.........and now a final word from the 'Major'..........cardew?There are three types of people in this world...those that can count ...and those that can't!

That is incorrect
Take the number of units used, multiply by the volume conversion factor, then the calorific value, then divide by 3.60 -
My gas bill say
Metric units x 40.0509(calorific value) x 1.022640 (volume correction) divided by 3.6 (to convert to kWh) =0 -

What do you think that equation comes to if not approx 11.2kWh!
The volume conversion factor hardly(never?) changes, the calorific value is generally around 40.0 so to use 11.2kWh for a metric gas unit is the accepted figure for calculation.0 -

So 11.38kWh0 -
Jellybean09, either you gave them the wrong reading over the phone or they wrote it down wrong! If you say they had a (wrong) start figure of 1283 and said you had used 4004 units that gives a reading of 5287,compared with your current reading of 3297.Suggests a 3 transposed to a 5 to me!
Surely if you switched supplier in March you would have had to give a final reading to SWALEC to start the account which would have generated a closing bill from your previous supplier. Are the dates correct? Did you really switch away from SWALEC for just 2 months? and if so, who did you switch to?0 -

Accepted by who? None of the major energy suppliers or independent commercial energy consultants I have worked for. It might work for a rough calculation but its not accurate and I am afraid that most of the people complaining about the size of there energy bills need to focus on accuracy in order to understand the amount of energy they use.0
