DHL delivery

Made an enquiry about DHL today.
You deliver 25 - 30 packages per weekday within a 3 mile radius of home. You use your own car and are classed as self employed. I was quoted 65p per parcel - once it is confirmed as delivered. I make that 97.50 per week max.
I have no idea how long this would take but at 3 hours per day it would be just over £6 per hour.
Presumably you would lose any JSA (or all but £5 anyway).
Hardly worth it, is it once you have paid petrol, stamp, NI etc. Plus your car insurance might go up.
What do others think?

How did you find this? I've looked on their site and there doesn't appear to be anything like this.0 -
Hiya i found the ad on gumtree couple of weeks back, as like mparter could not see anything on website...but if you google it DHL@ home jobs think it comes up on trovit with number to apply to as they are taking on at the mo _party_ as i have thought about re-applying. Think this is the link http://www.careersinlogistics.co.uk/cgi-bin/vacdetails.pl?selection=933028219&src=search
I used to work for them but i used to get way more parcels than 25-30 and it used to take me about 4 hours as i had big radius to deliver to and it said on gumtree 65-85p a parcel so don't know why the 25p margin. i liked the job but too much work at the time as i had another part time job, thing i didn't like was you don't get paid for re-deliverys and as easy as it may seem dropping it off with a neighbour...funnily enough not many wanted to answer the doorand you spent lot of wasted time door knocking to offload it.
But it fits with you as you deliver when you want and how you want and you can take the kids, dogs with you if need be...so swings and roundabouts like any job0 -
I saw it in a newspaper ad. Claribel - how did you go on about the self employed bit? Mparter - will pm you the contact.0

Pineapple i was already self employed at the time and have been for years, so i'm used to it now but i just told taxman originally when i first became self employed and hubbie fills in self assessment form for me but not sure if this wage is under tax threshold, or if it isn't you wouldn't pay much and just have to pay NI contributions by direct debit, its ok after a bit but i know it can be a bit daunting at first and also theres no holiday pay, so few things to think about before jumping in.0

If you do a search on this site for self employed courier you will see some recent threads about DHL and others experiences.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

Just a cautionary note.
I phoned my car insurer today and they would not cover me to do that. Not even a case of having to issue a new policy with a higher premium. I would have to find a new insurer.
So this does need to be looked at if people are considering it. If you happen to have a major bump or even write off your car while doing it..........0 -
You need commercial insurance, and you might need a van rather than a car. Did you have a look at the other threads about this?“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

You will need Goods In Transit Insurance, ( friend of mine paid £1400, that's approx £27 p.w. ) you may also need Public Liability Insurance. At 65p per parcel DHL are relying on mugs to do this.0

65p a parcel, no way can you really make that pay. I use to delivery take aways for £1 a delivery and packed it in due to it been rubbish money and I was busy most of time0

I have just applied as it would fit in nicely with the children and also still staying at home. My OH however said that they will probably start taking advantage and it would soon creep up from 2-3 hours delivering 5-30 parcels to much more. What does everyone else think. I could do with the money but also to have OH happy with it. Anyone else doing this at the mo?Me, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19
