Unpaid Bill from EDF - being chased by debt collectors/solicitors

Hi guys, wondering if you could give me some advice. I shared a flat with a friend last year. During this time we switched suppliers from EDF to British Gas. At the time we gave the metre readings to British Gas so that they can close the account with EDF.
A couple of months ago I was contacted by EDF to say there was an unpaid bill for about £200 on my account. It is a final bill from when the account was closed with them. However, on speaking to EDF about the bill, they said it was based on a reading from the landlord - so the account must have been kept open after I switched, meaning British Gas did not pass the reading on when they were supposed to.
So anyway, on speaking to EDF I explained the situation and I was told by the person on the phone that he could see what at happened and that he was "taking care of it." A month or so later I get a message from a debt collection agency saying that my case had been passed to them. I had to pay £60 to them there and then as a way of keeping them off my back for a bit. I also asked if they could send me a copy of the bill so I could maybe check the billing period, didn't receive anything. Spoke to EDF again a few weeks later, requested another copy of the bill, still haven't received anything and this was about three weeks ago. I've now just got a text messages from Bryan Carter Solicitors asking me to call them. I'm scared they're going to force me to pay another charge. I feel that this was British Gas' mistake, but can't do anything about it until I receive the bill. Any advice?
