Declined - why, and what now?

It might not be Credit file related, but your profile related.
i.e. at the time they may have only had a policy to lend to 60 year olds who owned there own house and have been buying wives from the far east - and at the time you did not fit who 'they' wanted to lend to at that moment in time.0 -

Glad you've grasped it though - best advice is to get all 3 credit reports then and only then will you know why you were rejected. If you're not on the electoral register then you'll struggle.........
Just thought your post was a little harsh as I had read all the links posted and still didn't quite understand, especially as it seems to be the same information on both, but nevermind. I will get the last report today.
I am on the electoral role and have been for a year, maybe that's not long enough, I dunno.0 -

Thanks for that, I guess it was in the middle of the credit crunch! I am a bit reluctant to apply for another now because I've been delclined, although it was 9 months ago....0 -

Hiya
It would appear that is the reason, does it link to your previous address (look under linked addresses or previous addresses) and is there an electoral register entry for the previous address?
If not, thats the problem. Lenders like to see consistency and being on the e/r means a lot.
If you last applied 9 months ago then go for it, on my thread Credit Ref Agencies it explains there that 6 searches in 6 months is acceptable
Good luck.... :beer:2010 - year of the troll

I saw that 6 is ok, but I only have two and got declined so was a bit worried about adding any more but I guess I'll just have to go for it0 -

It may be an idea to consider the sub prime cards, i.e. Vanquis/Cap1/Barclaycard etc and see how you get on as these are not as strict. If they decline you then post back and we'll help with an appeal for you..... that way its only the same single search....

I don't need a card, I just wanted to take advantage of cashback so I think I will just leave it for now. Thanks for your help0 -
How much do you earn per annum? Most lenders (unsecured) will permit you to have a total credit amount of about 1 years salary.
Your "Percentage of available credit" would be quite low at £800 used of a £1000 limit. Overdraft reporting is by provider, e.g. I have a £1,500 agreed overdraft limit with Barclays, but they only report £150 of it to the CRAs (why? no idea).
If you have cleared a lot of your credit commitments, try again.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

Ahhh, thats why - you need to start with a starter card, as such - not a moneyback one cos you will, unfortunately struggle if you have limited credit, to get the best deals.
I have 4 cards, 3 mainstream and one subprime and still cannot get an MBNA or good cashback card - I realise i'll have to wait a year or so til they get history on me.
Its a case of walking before running usually, so in that respect consider a Barclaycard Initial (not cashback).....2010 - year of the troll
