Hi, does anyone know of a nationwide telephone number for contacting a garage and organising recovery.
I would just like the re-assurance of having a contact number (during the day only as we will be stopping early) in the unlikely event of a breakdown miles from anywhere.
Sort of DIY breakdown "insurance" really but you only pay anything if you do actually break down.
Thanks,
Mike.

why not just buy breakdown cover
as for sure the cost if you did breakdown and just phone a garage would be higher than normal breakdown coverI MOJACAR0 -
Waffley story but relevant,
A few years ago we went to France. Bought RAC cover and it was the best money we spent the whole trip. It was February and snowing very, very hard in France. Spent six days at Disney so the car didn't move. When we left we hadn't even got to the motorway and the temp gauge shot up into the red. Turned out the radiator had split. Got to Camp Davy Crockett and the RAC was a phone call away(and english speaking). A local mechanic came out, got us transferred to Paris, and from there to the Tunnel at Calais. Had to drive the car on and off the train (as they won't allow non-driveable vehicles on) and the RAC met us the other side and took us home.
Every time we go abroad now, even for the day I get breakdown cover. Worth every penny0 -

Hi, thanks for your suggestions of getting breakdown insurance, probably the most sensible thing ............ but I would love to find out if there is a single telephone number that will link into the garage network in France (plus a similar number for Spain?).
Thanks,

The other moral there is, make sure your coolant is strong enough for winter before it gets cold.0 -
