HP Compaq nc4010 wifi issues

Hello all

I've a HP compaq nc4010 laptop with 1.7GHz Pentium M, 1GB RAM and 40GB HDD and windows XP with the latest Internet explorer (I think version 8). The laptop has built in wi-fi HW and is currently connected to my wifi Orange modem, called "Livebox".

The issue with this laptop is that it keeps losing the connection even from a few metres or 1 wall away from the "livebox" modem.

This is my 4th laptop configured with this "livebox" and the only one that has been giving me connectivity problems. All others seem to have worked far better and never lost connections even in the remote parts of garden.

Like other laptops, this laptop has been configured to hibernate when the lid is closed and comes back from hibernation (resumes) when the power button is pressed.

The connectivity then gets from 'excellent' to 'very good' to 'good' to 'low' to 'very low or poor connectivity'. Then the XP diagnostics open to disconnect and reconnect the "livebox" and then the wifi works fine again for a few minutes before going tits up again..

Sometimes it even regains the connection on its own (albeit slow) and sometimes its easier to disconnect and connect again by "viewing wireless networks". But this whole connectivity thing is winding me up now..

Could someone please advise how this issue can be solved?

Many thanks in advance...
