hey guys, im looking for some recommendations.
on a recent uni field trip, i was the (un)official group photographer, and have somewhere in the region of 70 photos that i would like to put online to share with my lecturers and classmates.
what i am after is a free photo hosting website, which will allow me to upload them, enabling easy access for everyone i choose to share the link with.
ideally, the ability to add comments/captions would be nice, although is not essential. a site which gives me the option of creating a nice, clear and *memorable* URL or account name would be good, so i can spread the word orally to those i cannot email with a link.
i would also be interested in ones where other membesr of the group can upload their photos to the same space, if such a facility exists. i understand this may need to be password protected, which isnt a problem.
the only sites i have heard of are photobucket and flickr, but i have never used these personally, so all hints, recommendations and pointers will be gratefully receieved

https://www.webshots.com will allow you nice galleries and photo albums to be set up, viewable by anyone. I'm unsure if comments are supported, though!"You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it."0

where has that thanks button gone anyway? This is not an automated signature. I write this at the bottom of every message0

My vote is for photobucket which I think will give you most of the options but doubt if this or similar sites can offer a a simple unique url .0

due to site slowness since the upgrade, the thanks button (and avatars) are subject to temporary removal in a drastic bid to speed things up. there are numerous threads on the issue in the "this site: questions and suggestions" section if you want further details.
ned..i will have a good nosey at photobucket too. cheers :beer:know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
flickr (owned by yahoo) is the one everyone talks about these days
It has a HUGE collection of tools you can use with.

The only problem with Flickr is it's not completely free - I like creating sets and stuff, but I've reached my limit, so they want to charge me £13 for a year's membership (wonder what'd happen to my pic's after a year if I didn't renew aswell) so I'm looking for an alternative.
Photobucket and Webshots aren't as good as Flickr.0 -
Flickr have a weird system (last time I looked anyway) where they only show you last 200 pictures you uploaded in a free account. But they don't delete your photos when you reach the limit. They just don't show earlier ones from ther site. If you remember the url you can still access them.Thenotsowyzewun wrote:The only problem with Flickr is it's not completely free - I like creating sets and stuff, but I've reached my limit, so they want to charge me £13 for a year's membership (wonder what'd happen to my pic's after a year if I didn't renew aswell) so I'm looking for an alternative.

I suppose the idea is that you use Flickr in blogs with confidence knowing your photo won't disapear but if you decide you want to access your old photos you can't remember the url to in future, you have to pay.0 -
I use photo box. You can set it up as private and send the unique address to who you want. I think that those people can then order hard copies of the pics if they want. I've found them very reliable, quick and competively priced.
No cost for uploading and displaying the pics, just a limit to how many in terms of storage space.0
