High Zoom Cameras

Options
I'm getting some early Christmas ideas :)

My gf currently has a Kodak Easyshare compact camera, and whilst it does the job fine she would like a better camera as she likes taking loads of pics. She would like an DSLR as some as her friends have got as although image quality is fine (it is only 5MP but pics mainly go on the web not printed out) the zoom ability is a bit lacking. The extra zoom would help for wildlife shots and similar when out walking.

I'm thinking that a DSLR is a bit overkill as they can be very bulky and I can't really see her swapping lenses about, plus they are obviously expensive (for non-professional use).

So, is a "high zoom" camera the best of both worlds or is it too much of a compromise? Ideally I'd like to pay £200 for a complete package but that isn't fixed. A key requirement is that it should be very easy to use, the less options the better. Taking standard AA batteries and having a large screen would be a plus.

All thoughts welcome, either in general about high zoom cameras or specific models...
