PGCE advice needed!

I'm applying to do a PGCE in primary education next year, and would like any tips anyone has about the application process. I have done my personal statement which my MIL (a former teacher) is having a look over for me, though I;m pretty good at that kind of thing. I'm currently volunteering both in school and out with kids, and I'm running a campaign talking in schools about recycling. Does anyone have any tips about other things I can do, and tips for an interview (if I get that far)?
IT would be greatly appreciated, as I really want to do this!

Hi, I'm starting my primary PGCE in September. My advice is get you application form in as soon as it comes out. The sooner you apply the more likely you are to get a place.
Second bit of advice is to start thinking about 'an issue in education' you could talk about at your interview (seems to be a pritty common theme) - check out the times educational suppliment (tes) website - specifically the 'staffroom' section.
You have done the right things in getting experience. Make sure you keep a diary of the things you have done with the children so you can talk about them at the interview. Even take some pictures along if you have any.
Most of all be yourself at the interview.Current Mortgage - £156,633:eek:Expecting baby no. one on 27th Oct 20100 -
Agree with the above poster-get as much info about current issues/influences in primary education.
Go to the TES website-onto the forums (staffroom) and go to the primary forum-there is a wealth of info there. Also, go onto govt websites-department of education and skills and download the papers relevent to your area.
I did my PGCE in further education a couple of years ago and the TES website is THE website for teachers (altough the forums are a very volatile place to be in-and addictive!)
BTW, you may have a group interview-you may want to prepare for that (even if its just knowing that there will be a group interview).
I think your experience speaks for itself and will be very useful in supporting your application.Respond to every call that excites your spirit.0 -
If you've taken photos, make sure you have 'clearance' for that with the schools concerned, and that their 'taking photos' policy covers your use of them.Signature removed for peace of mind0
