Cold Calling problems

Options
Hi guys,

Today, I've had 5 calls in the last 4 hours, starting at 8 o clock from random numbers asking for a "Mr White" (not me). Now, I'm registered on TPS so this is frustrating.

From quick research:
http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/08000524264
http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/01454635900/2

01784427116

I got my mother a quote on go compare a few months ago, and those links seems to suggest that is the problem. Anyway to stop them?

Or anyone had similar problems?

You can register on the telephone preference service http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/what/ which will stop most unsolicited calls from within the UK.

When you get a quote from an Insurance comparison site or Insurer website just put in a made up number, a lot of people put in 01234 567890, alternatively I quite like putting in the Insurers or comparison sites own phone number as it amuses me that their sales staff will ring their own company. If you put your own number in you will receive phone calls from the first five or so Insurers offering their services

If they are for a name you have never heard of it could be a neighboor or someone else who wanted to get an idea of a price for Insurance but did not want to put their own address or tele number in.

We have been harrassed by Talk Talk refusing to take no for an answer and they still keep calling us. We now either put the phone down as soon as they say who they are or just ignore them. We also are registered to TPS. We went on the TPS website and reported Talk Talk calling us regardless of the fact we have never contacted them and we got a nice reply saying TPS would write to Talk Talk asking them to explain themselves and to stop calling us. They also may refer it on for enforcement action. It was only a few days ago we reported them so will see what happens.

If I get some that ignore TPS, I just say "I'll just get Mr White for you", then sit amused wondering how long they will wait....
    They will soon stop calling.

The OP is registered with the TPS:

The chances are these are not "Unsolicited calls", I suspect as I have posted a neighboor or someone else has put in a random number when getting a quote so the calling thinks its not unsolicited (The websites do have small print that say the Insurers may ring you and you generally have to opt out).

The TPS does not have any jurasdiction over calls that are made from overseas so a lot of sales call centres are now based over seas to get around this and / or for the cheaper labour costs
  • I think it's definitely from the gocompare (or similar) from last time. I wish I knew about the fake number thing beforehand.

I don't mind winding the person up on the end of the line pretending to be Mr White but I can't stand them ringing and disturbing my beauty sleep.

I think this is definitely one of the "cons" with using these online comparison sites. :(

Try putting the 01234 0567890 number in which is a number that is not in use for obvious reasons, most websites accept this.

I usually give my name as Paddy O'Furniture on websites I don't want to give my real name
