1 Adult - How much are your bills?

Options
Hi

My friend is with NPower and lives in a 2 bed flat, all electric at the moment her direct Debit is £67 a month but for the summer quarter her bills said she was in £47 debit despite her monthly payments!

Thats £240 + for the summer months!

the problem she has is that her meter is in a locked cupboard in the stairwell so they keep estimating and the landlords wont give her a key - this has GOT to be to much surely?
TOTAL: (1.9.2008) £[strike]20,971.00[/strike] (02.12.10)£11,006.07
£9,262.93 Paid off (Since LBM) :D

    Hi

I live in a 2 bedroom house and pay around £27.00 per month for my exact useage. It does sound like your friend is paying alot, is she at home during the day? Did she have a large debit on her account that needed paying off. There could be numerous reasons, or maybe npower are just overestimating her usegae.

It doesn't sound right that her landlord will not give her a key, can she arrange with him to read the meter every month or so, or can he read the meter every month if he doesn't want to give her a key?

    It would certainly be excessive to use £248 in a summer quarter(3 x £67 + £47)

However the bill is almost certainly reflecting an estimated reading at the start or end of the bill(or both) or it could be a debit balance from the previous quarter carried over.

However £67 a month for an all electric flat is not excessive and the true state of her tariff will become apparent when the meter is finally read.
  • Thanks guys. I suspect that her last supplier gave an estimated reading at the end as well

I'm with Npower on SOL14 and pay by fixed Direct Debit. I pay £20 for Gas and £7 for my Electric per month. After Npowers annual Dual Fuel Rebate this clears my account, so neither party owes any money.

I live in a modern 3 bed semi, and it's only occupied on the evenings and weekends. Gas HE Combi boiler and central heating.

Think your friend may be paying too much

I've recently moved to a two bed cottage, have been paying £35/month gas and £35/month electric, after two months of direct debit payments i'm £100 in credit - its working out about £15 for elec and £5 for gas - and i LOVE it!

That's for the summer months, your payments will need to increase considerably to get you through the winter months without creating any debt.
