Camera advice for elderly mother please!

My 70-odd-year-old ma has rung up to tell me she wants a digital camera so she can take pictures while out walking on the beach etc of close up detail for inspiring her painting.

Has anyone got an deals available for something suitable?

Hopefully under £70?

I've got an usnused Sony printer I'll give her to go with it.

There are loads of cameras under £70 but it might be useful to take her somewhere she can actually hold the potential purchases and see if she likes the feel of them

Places like John Lewis are a good bet for this, also M & S.

You could get a Sony Cybershot for around the £50 mark

Does the printer print directly from the camera, avoiding the need for a PC?

As the Op says try before you buy! I'd personally go to a local camera shop. Even the likes of jessops have bargins. QVC do some good deals at weekends too, on the TV. they have a 30 day return policy as well as easy pay.
My local shop had a Practica digital 5MB for £60!

Thanks all! Tried this on the "I wanna" board and got no replies.

I think it is a plug in direct printer but I'll have to check.

She does use a computer but the simpler the better.

When you say all new - do you mean the site?
The cameras are all refurbished it would appear

Nikon coolpix 4100 is a great wee camera.

For ease of use have always found Kodak to be very good, & often see them on offer in Morrisons.

The viewfinder has fallen out of fashion on a lot of compact cameras, which is a shame, as I personally prefer them. Actually gives you a chance of seeing what you might be pointing the camera at.
