I think you would still be covered under the Sale of Goods Act, as you would expect a laptop and monitor to last well over a year.

You should at least be offered a repair or partial refund, but I imagine with PC World you will have to argue for it.0 -
These types of post do better on the vent board. What you will have to do is walk into PC world and explain the situation and ask if they will do a free repair, they will say no. Then write a letter to PC world explaining that the goods were bought XXYY date and you consider the goods to be unsatisfactory, and you would like a free repair & if you don't get one you will have to take matters further through the Small claims court.
They will write back and say "no" you then give them another chance and then a final chance to do the repair, "otherwise court action will be taken. and I will also have to recover the court fee"
They will say "no", and again "no".
You then file in the small claims court online @ https://www.moneyclaims.gov.uk
You will submit documents, copies of all correspondence, reciepts for goods etc. They will probably not submit documents, maybe just a letter.
They will either submit no defence in which case you should win, or they will write to you or phone you just before the court date to offer to repair the goods, at which point you will say........send me a cheque for XX pounds (cost of court..non refundable by the court) and I will stop the court process.
If you want more help or advice, post this in the vent board, and ask your trading standards to help you to word your letters, and file with the court.0 -
I have a similar problem with a laptop that's screen has died after 18 months bought from PC World.
Tried contacting PCServiceCall but they wan't me to purchase a "Repair and Protect" policy.
I'm not going to do this, as it should be covered under the 'reasonable length of time' component of the Sale of Goods Act, i.e. a reasonable person would expect a new £1K laptop to last longer than 18 months.
Decided that the PCSericeCall route isn't going to get this fixed, so I need to contact someone at the top. Does anyone know of a suitable postal address to send a letter to, so that it may hit the boss/CEO's desk?
For info, I have the email address of the CEO from here, but emails tend to be ignored:

I am aware I am likely to have a battle on my hands, but nothing ventured...

There's no point, just write to the customer service department, and go to court.0
