Help from your Local Authority

I hope I'm not teaching you all to suck eggs, but....
Just wanted to remind people with disabilities that help, both financial and otherwise, can be sought directly from local authorities. Reading these forums it appears a lot of focus is given to DLA and other benefits. Forgive me if I'm speaking out of turn.
With wages and benefits added together my wife and I (with 3 kids) do quite well. Yet we can still receive a small amount of council tax benefit, bus pass (neither of us drive) and leisure card (enabling us to make savings on swimming and other leisure activities).
Local authorities can also help with transport and other aspects of daily life.
These 'little' things mount up and I urge you, if you haven't already, to visit your social services and see how they can help.
I hope this is helpful to you.

Do you have to be on DLA to get these, do you know? All the help seems to be for those on DLA already, which is a shame.

Jaz, I think that'll depend on your local authority etc, but technically you shouldn't have to be on DLA to get help, with a supportive dr/consultant it should be possible, then again, the help available will also vary depending on where you live.0
