Best way to remove a name of clothing

Hi all

Wonder if you could help, I bought a coat from Ebay for my child and as lovely as it is, its got the name written in of the previous owner:rolleyes: It looks like some kind of marker pen, I really would like to know if you had any ideas about how to remove this? I have considered picking the lable out all together, but then that may look odd??

How big is the writing? Can you sew/iron in a new name tape over the original one?

I was going to suggest what olliebeak has suggested! I think it would be easier than removing the label altogether.
  • try going over it again with the same colour marker pen. would you not be happy just to leave it?
  • My younger son's school clothes all have the elder son's name in them. He doesn't mind, he can still find them when he needs to. Poor kid, always in hand me downs.

I'd sew a new name over the old one too;)
  • Razor-blade - slice off the old label, then re-label or whatever as required.

    Works a treat :)
  • Thanks everyone:cool:

The label is quite big, its not a name tag lable its the lable with the brand name on, the writing is quite bold, and I forgot to mention before theres actually two names on it:rolleyes: The coat itself is in excellent condition, would have cost me £65 new! I have tried nail varnish remover on it and have popped it in the wash on a hot cycle, if that doesn't work, think I will have to unpick the lable. Its not so much my child that cares tbh, its other kids, you know what they can be like:confused:

    Thank you xx

  • sorry confused!!
why cant you just cut it off?
could you post a piccie of the jacket...curious!!
  • Can you unpick around the writing and cut the area with the name on of and fold a small hem under and slip stitch ~ if you did not want to remove the whole of the label this is how I would do it.

Its in the washing machine atm.

The lable which is quite large and is the brand label, is securely stitched in on all four sides, with tiny thread, obviousley done by a machine at the manufacturer.

  • ah right, i would probably just cut it as close to the edge as i could possibly get, pull the two sides together as neatly as possible and sew that part so you dont see where the label was.
