The DV connector on the camcorder is a Firewire or IEEE1394 connector.
You need a suitable cable and firewire interface for your PC.

    The cable looks like this:
    FW-IEEE-1394A-64-6FT.jpg

Search for Firewire cards on Amazon if you don't have one.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • DV Conecton is the best way to tansfer from tape to disk. What I do is transfer tape to disk on the recorder, then place disk in PC and import disk into editing software - such as Windows Movie Maker.(comes free with most versions of windows from XP upwards.) You can then edit out the bits you don't want and make a proper result! Hope this helps.

If camcorder has usb or firewire and assuming pc has firewire use firewire it does appear to be quicker even though the spec of usb2 appear in theory to be faster it isnt

Also there are different firewire conenction so make sure you get the right one. I used to use ulead videostudio for extracting dv but now moved on to h.264, dv is slightly better quality even though is lower resolution 720 than my new h.264 camcorder

If you want to do any serious editing, I'd suggest getting a copy of adobe premier elements. Much better than WMM and the like.
Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.
  • You can buy the firewire cable from Poundland. If you have a DVD recorder, it may also have a firewire input, but the editing functions are limited.

Problem is that most cheaper computers and laptop do not come with firewire inputs and you cannot just buy an adapter to covert from IEEE to usb.
  • Thanks,i have just ordered a cable from amazon and give it a go.
