Insurance for tenants

Can anyone recommend insurance for us as tenants when moving into a property? Scared to death we'll ruin something expensive (it's unfurnished but the work surfaces are granite etc). I don't want to be stung for a new kitchen! Can they keep more than the deposit, or ask for more?

Sorry about all the threads, just getting a bit paranoid!

  • Im with Endsleigh - they were much cheaper than most of the main insurers, and offer good tenant cover, which should cover all you need. Ours costs £13.50 a month, direct line quoted nearly £30 a month...
  • Hi, I agree that Endsleigh are really good for contents insurance if you're renting.

However, your landlord should also have their own buildings insurance, and your deposit should be protected under the Deposit Protection Scheme. Landlords should always account for wear and tear during the tenancy, and they should have done a proper inventory for you on the current condition of everything, when you moved in.

However, if in doubt, take some photos now, and then again when you leave. It helped me no end in a deposit refund problem a few years ago.

Anyway you sound like model tenants, your landlord should be grateful!

hope you have happy times in your home :)
