Can anyone recommend a savings account for my 14 year old. The rates all seem to be c**p for kids. She is currently getting 1.74% with Yorkshire which is pretty dire but im stuggling to find much better.
We want:
Upto 2 year savings period.
Probably fixed.
Able to add to the savings.
No withdrawal required.
Well known high street provider preferably a local branch.
Not much to ask really!
Can you beat 1.74 gross

There aren't many accounts which offer a fixed rate as well as allowing additional deposits. One is Halifax's Guaranteed Saver Reward: 2.40% fixed for a year, allows additional deposits, maximum of 4 withdrawals a year, minimum of £2,500, available to those aged over 11.

The current YBS 3 year fixed rate bond at 4.65% is a possibility if 3yrs is not too long.

Just transfer over from the One Day/Freedom account how much she is happy not to have access to and continue to save into One Day/Freedom. Check with your branch but I believe that previous bonds had a minimum age of 11 otherwise you can open it in trust for her instead and don't forget the R85.

Hurry though, it is likely to disappear very soon.
