Can I use rail travel vouchers as part of payment for a railcard?

I received a £20 voucher as a refund as I was overcharged repeatedly when using my 16-25 railcard on the train (by about £3 a time) - the guards refused to accept my railcard was valid on the journey - despite internet printouts, and stamped and signed notes from the ticket office.

Thing is my journeys cost only £12, so wondered if I could use it as part payment toward a new 16-25 railcard. I seen on a few forums that people have, but I can't find anything definite on the 16-25 site.

A lady at the preston ticket office said I could, but is there anything in black and white incase blackpool staff say this isn't the case?
