Council Tax- is it unlawful?

I found this website which some of you may find interesting...

nocounciltax.com/?p=71

Basically, if you read it through, you discover there is no legal obligation to pay council tax. All the letters/correspondence is there in black and white to prove it.

Also, if you read the comments at the bottom, it looks like very little (if any) of our council tax money goes to services like bins, fire/police service. It's all just one big government scam.

This website page is quite funny:

nocounciltax.com/?p=50

I am really interested to know what you think.

I understand all the above, I have had trouble with paying my council tax and have had the baliffs round my house but I just thought it was an interesting article.

"others would have done this by now" - not necessarily if they don't know about it. People just follow rules and regs like sheep and don't even question anything. It is healthy to question authority rather than been scared that baliffs etc are coming round to get you if you don't pay and you just keep on towing the line.

I have looked in the "common law" side of things and it is very interesting.

I might try this out and let you guys know :p

Example - they say council tax bills are not legal because they do not meet the requirements for a bill of exchange.

True, they don't meet those requirements - but they don't need to. They are bills, not bills of exchange. Not the same thing at all.

The writer of that section obviously doesn't know what a bill of exchange is - or does but is being disingenuous.

Just to clarify what dzug1 has said, in laymans terms - A bill of exchange for all intents and purposes is a post dated cheque that usually has its value ring fenced by a bank to guarantee payment where as a bill is an invoiced debt that can be paid in full or, with the agreement of both parties, paid by installment.
Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p
