i have often seen meat in the reduced section with a slight change in colour not the brown but slightly darker ............
this meat was almost saying " DONT MAKE ME ANGRY......YOU WONT LIKE ME WHEN IM ANGRY "0 -
Well if it's Goblin Flesh Green (this is an official Games Workshop colour I think...) then it's probably off. Does it smell? If so, definately off. If however it's sort of shiney dragonfly green with shimmery bits it's just the light refracting off it as Ela says.Val.0

My OH still hasn't grown out of it!!! Given up thinking he ever will!:rolleyes:0 -
we never got food poisoning - wonder why with so many modern methods and appliances - its so prevalent now?
Because in the old days we didn't spend our lives trying to kill bacteria. We just ate it and let our bodies immune systems take care of it. All the things we have today, ecoli, sam n ella etc. were around (even more) in those days, but our immune systems were used to them.
Then certain companies discovered they could sell us loads of products if they told us bacteria was bad for us and we had to kill it. So over the years less and less bacteria has made it's way into our stomachs and our immune systems have grown weaker. So when we make a slip and allow bacteria in, our bodies just can't cope with it.0 -
ty geordie joe - i think its a valid point - but......meat wasnt riddled with added water and all the carp they give animals these days. best to use common sense and a good smell of the meat - and if in doubt dont eat it. oh and in my post i mentioned market traders because a few years back trading standards in my area prosecuted a market trader for selling meat which was meant for animal feed. and he used to clean it up by hosing it down or bleaching it. so it looked ok - but had a bleachy smell. until you kept it few days or tried to freeze it and it decomposed very quickly!!! just a warning to OP and certainly wouldnt advocate chucking out perfectly good food!0

That's fair comment, especially about the water and carp they put into food and animals. But back when I was a lad there wasn't much in the way of food hygiene. Cooked meat, bacon, cheese etc. was simply placed on top of the counter all day and the shop keeper cut lumps off when someone asked for it. Sometimes the shopkeeper would throw the cheese in the air, just to show off, and fail to catch it. It would hit the counter then fall and roll across the shop floor. You would just retrieve it and give it to the shop keeper to wipe on his apron and wrap in paper. He'd just wink and say "Don't tell your mother, what she doesn't know won't hurt her".
I never did, as I'd seen her do and say the same thing many times.
Edit: Forgot to add, I agree with you, if it smells iffy then bin it.0
