Am i right or wrong?

Options
Hi there, I hope I have posted this in the correct forum? I am after some advice, I booked a hotel room for over the August bank holiday through alpha rooms the room was great but when we got there we where told by the hotel that it was £12 a night to park in their car park, this was not mentioned in the ad by alpha rooms I have phoned the company & they advised me to email customer services which I have done 5 times, I have had confirmation emails back off them but no replies so I have just phoned them, they have said they have sent an email or letter out on 17th Sept to me (which I haven’t received yet) but the girl I spoke to said they have closed the case & that they only advertise the hotels & that I would be expected to pay any extra charges the hotel requires, I have never had to pay for car parking in a hotel before & I think alpha rooms should state this in the advert for the hotel? Also I think the service they provide about queries is pretty lousy  they could have at least let me know what was going on, do you think I am right & should I take this further? Any advice would be much appreciated

John

  • Hi John,

Couldn't really say without seeing the advert in question - do you have a scanned copy of it? Plus you presumably signed/ticked a box regarding T&Cs of reservation?

12 pounds a night to use a hotel car park is scandalous IMO!

Many hotels charge for parking. Alpharooms are correct, you booked a hotel room, not a parking space. Sorry!

Can you park elsewhere? Maybe do some research down this line? Most booking agents will include a line somwhere in the T&C stating that any additional fees incurred by you in connection with staying at the hotel will need to be paid directly to the hotel (you DID read the T&C's didn't you.....?)

The OP stayed at the hotel in August. ;)

PinkLipgloss, £12 is pretty standard for hotel parking, and in some cities, very cheap!

    Seriously?

I'll be careful when booking hotels to ensure I don't end up paying that kind of money for a car parking space

Yep, easily. My usual hotel in London charges £27, Manchester £12, Nottingham £8 or £12. I don't pay, I am happy to use public transport, but my 'bedroom friend' insists on driving everywhere ... and puts it all on expenses!

Edit: You should see the prices in Los Angeles, where you can pay £40 per day!

Here is what it said on ALPHAROOMS web site about hotel

    Hotel Facilities
    · Restaurant(s)
    · Parking
    · Business Services
    · Cafe / Bar
    · Conference Facilities

But when you book the hotel direct they tell you

    Parking for 120 vehicles (chargeable)

Yes I did read the T&C & have just read them again & still cant see anything , these 2 quotes did stand out though

    Our Price Guarantee
Prices on the website do change from time to time; prices can go up as well as down and you will be able to determine your up to date price for your chosen accommodation prior to confirming your booking online.
We guarantee that once you have made your booking, we will not increase the price of your accommodation - this includes any changes to VAT or Government Taxes.
Please note once you have agreed a price and made your booking this is the price you pay. If the price decreases, you are not entitled to the accommodation at the changed rate.

    ALSO
If you incur additional expenses and you feel these should be paid by AlphaRooms, we will only consider claims when full invoices or receipts for those expenses are produced. Please note production of these invoices or receipts does not automatically mean we will cover those expenses.

Shocking! Just as well I don't use UK hotels - I would totally begrudge paying that kinda money for a parking space!

I don't mind about car parking prices elsewhere as I wouldn't have a car with me :D

Japan is a shocking country with regards to car parking prices - I guess it's because space is so precious there! However, it was never an issue as I always used public transport or my bike.

That all seems fair enough as they didn't change the price of the accommodation.

Plenty of hotels charge for parking as do plenty of public car parks to park your car overnight.

In fact when I was in hospital last year my wife stayed some nights and had to pay for parking there.

At the end of the day I would rather pay for parking at a hotel that seems a bit more secure than just leaving the car in the middle of a public carpark in a city centre.

lol, sorry, it's been a long day....hell it's been a long LIFE this week!!

I can't help feeling that as you have paid up and didn't dispute it at the time they may not be very sympathetic :( You could produce the receipts as advised by Alpharooms and see what they say?

Paid £12 for overnight parking in Brighton a few monthsd ago...does seem standard (if not right!!) Space is at such a premium in cities that I guess they have to charge so that people don't just park there to go shopping or to the cinema.
