Does anyone still buy videos?

I have a huge collection that I never watch - just wondered if anyone has experience of selling VHS tapes and what sells best/ where best to try and sell them?

Thanks!

  • Don't try eBay or Amazon unless they're rare - p&p will exceed the value of the tapes so they're unlikely to sell. You could try a car boot sale, where some will sell for about 50p each, and if you have any animated Disney ones they should be worth about £1 at boot sales. Alternatively, you could try selling them through your local paper or supermarket board as a job lot, in which case I'd multiply the number of tapes by about 20p.

Thanks CMP - I do have a large boot sale pile started, but I'm a bit scared as I've never car booted before! I will need to round up some friends to help out!

My video player recently packed in so we decided to sell ours. We divided them into the different classifications and sold them in bulk on Ebay. They all went but it probably worked out at about 12p per video! The only ones we did make a bit of money were Disney (especially those not being made anymore) and for some reason The Land Before Time (!!). I have no idea why.

Thanks... I have a few disney, so might try listing them. By the way, how much does it cost to post a video?

It varies! The amount of film on the video will dictate the cost. Also, you'll need to take into account the weight of the bubble wrap or padded envelope. I'd weigh a couple on the kitchen scales, take the average and check the weight on the Royal Mail website and add 50p or so for packaging.

I had a Dalek one that went well. And I buy Bon Jovi music videos, or any with Jon Bon Jovi in.

I have sold a few videos on Amazon. Unless they are worth over £5.00 (and I have paid no more than a pound for them) and even then you only make approx £2.00 after postage. The more they are worth obviously the better the return.

Most vids cost approximately £1.14 - £1.29 to post first class - so that would be 88p - £1.00 second class. HTH Amazon fees are a tad high, but no hassle listing.
