back in december last year aol started taking erratic amounts out of my bank account via direct debit for my broadband when i phoned them and asked them why and they couldnt give me an explanation
i then told them that if i didnt get an explanation as to why and a refund to what i had been overcharged i was going to take my business elsewhere.
they told me fine do that then!
when i tried to pay my aol bill at the end of december they refused my payment  and disconnected my internet on boxing day - how nice of them
Anyway to cut a long story short i have heard nothing from them at all until this morning when i get a debt collection letter through the door from intrum justitia saying that i have an overdue debt of £17.99 to aol
I dont particularly want to be ringing this company on there 0870 number and i cant find an alternative on saynoto0870
Does anyone know where i stand now?
I would have thought that if they refused the payment in the first place then i surely dont owe them the money
I know its not a lot i just feel its the principle of it

Write to them recorded delivery and tell them the facts. If you owe them the money include a cheque. If they owe you money tell them so and give them 14 days to pay.
Either way you don't have to call them.

I am trying to get the 2 £15.99 direct debits they took from me after I cancelled because weirdly enough they have no records of me cancelling
Everytime I phone I get put through to someone who makes no sense because of how broad his accent is and just tells me the same thing. Even phoning the head office doesnt help because they just put me through to the same place :wall:Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -

I use AOL as well, terrible service! I only just found out after moths of asking how I could get away from using their software that causes crashes non-stop on my NEW computer. Tut. Hope it all goes well for you with the debt collection thing, and hope you've given AOL the boot!...
BTW, I managed to get my broadband down to £9.99 by threatening to cancel my account with them, from £24.99!!!:beer:Stuff Happens As Wave of Ambiguity Spreads:cool:0 -

Only one problem with threatining to cancel with aol is if u take the new deal with them is that if really want to cancel the next time u phone to really cancel u cant because u are now on a new contract believe me i no as its happened to me now im stuck with aol for another 6 months before i can go else where, if u take the deal beware as they will start another contract for a year.Became Debt Free 2009

Their service speed wise hasn't actually been too bad. I used to get the odd disconnection now and again, but can't complain really as I no longer use the AOL software to browse the internet which means my PC doesn't die everytime I go online! Plus AOL is unlimited, I more or less leave the connection on 24/7.Stuff Happens As Wave of Ambiguity Spreads:cool:0
