    Good luck.

I don't really know what rights you have under this. I had a nightmare with my engagement ring from F Hinds and would never go back to them after.

My ring was titanium and was slightly too small, so the assistant said she would stretch it. After giving it a go, she said "I nearly broke the machine. I don't think it'll stretch any more, so I'll order you one in the right size. Take this one and just bring it back when the ring comes in."

After a few days and hearing nothing, I called the shop and was told it would be in in about a week.

I gave it a week and called. Still nothing. They said they'd let me know.

After three weeks, somebody finally called to ask why I hadn't collected the ring because they got it in 2 weeks ago.

So I raced to the shop and tried to exchange the ring only to be told that it was 'damaged' and they couldnt accept it back. I asked why and they went to get the manager who said it had been mistreated and they couldn't return it. I explained what the assistant said, only to be told that I was lying because they 'would NEVER stretch titanium.'

I checked online and called their customer services, asking about their 'no quibble 30 day returns policy' only to find it excludes modifications, something that is mentioned online but was never mentioned in the shop.

I went home with the too-small ring and wrote a letter to head office detailing everything that had happened, with dates, and pointing out that the sales assitant had sold me a ring knowing it was going to be returned for one the correct size, then stretched it (something that is against store policy), voiding the 30 day guaruntee, then sending me on my way telling me to reuturn the ring when the new one came in. I also listed the failures in communication, the rudeness of the manager, and generally carved them a new one.

I was then sent a letter appologising and telling me I could have my ring. The staff still refused to acknowledge that they had tried to stretch it, claiming "well, if she did, she was new." As if that made it ok.

I know i got a bit sidetracked, but the moral of the story is, if you know that you've not damaged the ring yourself and that it was poorly made, keep a note of everything that happens, every date, and keep fighting because you can win.

The nature of rings is they will get knocked and possibly dented so you might struggle a bit.

What do you mean by dented?

Platinum is the softest of the precious metals, and can quite easily become dented or even slightly twisted. A lot more so than gold, silver or titanium...
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands
