My father has one heck of a system with Koolance liquid systems and a network of wires which blows my mind, sadly he passed away and now I am trying to work out what to do!!
After the Koolance began overheating, and speaking to a local computer chap, he suggested breaking it all down, selling it and buying a desktop..
I download music etc for my Ipod, as well as NDS files and also run my own business, so do alot of HTML. Alot of surfing, online networking and online shopping on the side too!!
So given my requirements, what sort of system would you techie guys recommend for me???
By the way, can`t stand Windows Vista !!

Firstly my condolances.
The the tech guy sounds a bit lame, or you have left out some of the information they told to you.
If the board/processor is fried, then purchase a second hand one. It does get to the point where the cost of diagnosis outweighs a new purchase.
If the compuer works but overheats then the heat item may be able to be tracked down via thermocouple, thermomiter, or ir gun like http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Infrared-IR-Laser-Digital-Handheld-Thermometer-BATTERY_W0QQitemZ200380300648QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_BOI_Electrical_Test_Measurement_Equipment_ET?hash=item2ea798bd68&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14
it should be fairly easy to convert the board back to an air cooled one, but some heatsinks may be an issue. Fans you can get ar most electronic shops.
I'd note down the jumpers and bios switches etg, then set the computer to a non overclocked mode - often people with this level of cooling overclock, but some just want a quieter pc.
The big question wether your farther has instalattion disks or not, especially the operating system ones. If not, put on windows 7 (released 22 october), or linux - about the only 2 options really as anything else is a step back in the MS world.
Providing you do not play those system hungry 3d games, any basic pc should suit your purpose like the £220 one here http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/485144/extra-value-pentium-dual-core-e5400/0 -
a bit lame is a under statement
water cooled system over heating ,it full of dust in the rads it needs a good clean for a start
it might need new liquid ,some thing like distilled water with wetter ,or http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/catalog/index.php?cPath=34_95_100
you might need a few litres and you need to clean the old out ,
or replace the H2O system with a corsair h50 H2O system easy to keep up to ,if it not a full H2O system mboard, cpu, graphic cards,
it just needs some TLC
H2O system is not normal on this forum put there are a few others forums that can help you
google watercooling forums and it will be a good learning curve for you
and your local pc shop can make some money out of the parts thats why he said sell it,because it the cream of water cooling http://www.koolance.com/default.phpthere or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff0
