    We've recently had to sort out a Land Cruiser where someone had tried a similar idea........ talk about nearly kill a good car! Cost a fortune to put it right.


    Wouldn't even try a japanese fuel pump on wvo.

    I have no idea why anyone would risk a good car, regardless of make, on a stupid idea like this.

    Works perfectly on the right car, it's green, and it saves over £1 a litre if you get it free, about 60p a litre if you buy it.

    Sorry posted mine before yours was up - so didn't mean you!

    I will stick to plain old boring (expensive) petrol anyway. I wouldn't risk my car with this experiment - I need to get to work each day, and public transport is non existent...

    Its all very well experimenting like this on an old cheap car; if it works great, if not then you haven't really lost too much.
    If you want to do it on a newer expensive car you really need to do your research and buy the proper converting equipment at cost of over £1000.

    Good points everyone. The car cost £500, whilst I am not suggesting that if it breaks I can just go and buy another one I don't think I would have the balls to try it on a new car and there doesn't seem to be that many people using Japanese cars- a land cruiser, now that's brave, I hope it wasn't too new.
    For me its a cheap run around without modern common rail technology with a pump manufactured by Bosch with an Isuzu engine, hopefully this will be the right combination. I only bought it a week ago and am still on my first tank of diesel and I want to see that it runs ok and what mpg I get from the tank, then I aim to put 10 litres of (free) wvo into the tank with 40 litres of regular mineral diesel to see how it runs (50 litre tank). With winter approaching I don't think I would add more than 10 litres with the cold weather but it will give me a saving of 20% on each time I fill the tank. Next year when the weather warms I will slowly increase the mix to see how it effects the running until I reach a 40/60 mix in favour of wvo in July/August. My calculated fuel cost for the year if £700 so I could make quite a saving.
    Will keep the post running with updates and photos as I get them. in the meantime I really appreciate everyone help/advice and jokes ! The frying squad !

    I wouldn't use it in any modern diesel. The old direct injection from a mechanical pump is the only system to use it with, then only Bosch pumps. Our 97 peugeot has a Lucas pump, otherwise I'd be doing it on this as well. Sadly it was too good a car to miss, even though I have to run it on dino fuel.

    Well I now have a garage full of wvo. Am currently trying different methods of filtration and separation. Will post some pics tomorrow.

    Here is the oil I have collected so far. These are 20L containers. The nearest container is one that I have tried to filter already. Now by my reckoning the lighter stuff at the bottom is the oil and crud that I don't need. I have since empted the two half full containers into the one at the far end leaving me with two spare containers and allowing all the crud to settle to the bottom.
    To filter container number 1 I have used a sieve for all the big pieces. I then tried to pour it thru a funnel with a J cloth in it but these would take all day to do as it was so slow, so I need ideas of how to filter it further for engine use.
    I also need to come up with a good idea of how to get the good oil out and away from the crud. All I can think of is a home brew butt with a tap at the bottom, then as the crud settles at the bottom open the tap and drain off (which I would save and repeat the process to make sure I am collecting all of the usable oil) then just leaving a container of good filtered usable fuel.
    As ever all thoughts and comments greatly appreciated !
