There is also a visitor museum at Changi Jail if you are interested in WW2 stuff. its a train and bus ride and if you go a few miles further there is a nature reserve, its on an island, sorry i cant remember the name, but you have to go on a bum boat to get to it. Then once there you can only get around by walking or hiring a bike, only a couple of £ per day. We saw hornbills and lots of other birds i don't know the names of, there were also wild boar and other wild life.

Singapore has the night zoo again very easy to get to by underground and bus.

We did the overnight sleeper train from Singapore to KL( First Class Deluxe) quite an experience, visited the Petronas Towers.

We planned most of our itinerary from home using Lonely Planet guide books and the tourist board sites.

Then what do you do? ..... Go shopping?... Visit the zoo?... A river cruise?... Go to Little India/Chinatown?... Admire the efficiency of the airport?... Go on a big wheel and admire the view?... Museums?...... One could almost be talking about London if it were not for the airport efficiency bit. ;)

If you are interested in nature, go to KL and then head straight out to Kuala Selangor. It's one of the few places in the world where you can still see the synchronised fireflies in the mangroves. It's a few years since we were there, so my memory is a bit fuzzy. It was very easy to get there, we went down to the bus station and took a coach, they went regularly every hour at least, and it took about 2 hours, maybe 3.

We stayed in the local flea pit (rooms by the hour, the staff were baffled by us being there, but were very lovely). But there are chalets to rent inside the Nature Park, which I think is probably this place http://www.depalmahotel.com/kuala_selangor.htm The chalets are supposed to be very nice, but I've not been in one.

It's a birding resort, there's some info here
    http://allmalaysia.info/news/attraction.asp?id=25&pt=8

And there are troops of silverleaf monkeys everywhere, but the fireflies are the main attraction.
When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.

We stayed here! Agree it was wonderful. We stayed in an A frame, v basic 2 single mattresses on the floor ( it was th elast one left they have chalets too but we arrived on the spot without phoning.

Awesome amount of monkeys here! Never seen anything like it anywhere, absolutely loads, unnerving but wonderful!

Saw the fireflies too, this was a really wonderful trip one of the best things Ive ever seen- you have to pinch yourself to remind yourself this is natures wonder, not a man made attraction.

Took a bus from KL Chinatown junction it took about 2 hours, v comfortable coach - cheap too. then took a cheap taxi to the nature park ( about £2) and the tour itself was about a fiver.

    brilliant!
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

KL Bird Park is worth a vist.It is the largest in the world. It costs 42myr approx £8 . Spent a couple hours there on Sunday.

The Butterfly park is situated next door in the Lake Gardens and the Orchid Garden across the road from Bird park. Orchid Garden is free during the week and 1Myr at weekends. Not sure how much it costs to go to Butterfly Park think it is pretty basic though.

These are all in the same area so can be visited on the same day. National Mosque is in the same area as is the Islamic Arts Museum.

Either get taxi to the area or you can use the Hop On Hop Off bus which costs 38Myr for 24 hours or you can get a 2 day pass which is cheaper.

You can take the tube to Masid Jamek visit Merdaka Square and get taxi from there.

The HOPO bus stops at the Heritage Centre .The Palace, Lake Gardens for Butterfly Park,Orchid Gardens, Bird Park. National Mosque and Merdaka Square. Menara Tower and Petronas Tower. Little India , Chinatown and the Craft Centre where you can see locals doing weaving, batak etc in the huts outside the centre.

For Petronas Towers you need to go quite early in the morning to get tickets for that day as they only let do many people in per day. it is closed on a Monday. You get a better view from menara i think.

You could visit the Elephant Sanctuary but it is quite a bit out of town and really
requires a taxi and a full day.
Firefly is also a full day and overnight stay reccomended.
Batu Caves which is next on my list is a short trip. Monorail or Lrt to Titswanga and u6 bus from there .

A lot really depends on your budget and time you have to spend and the good old weather.

Travel on Rapid Kl is cheap way to get around but beware of taxi drivers ripping you off. They are cheaper than home but beware.

A hotel that is different but might be out of your budget is in the centre behind the Pavillion Shopping Mall and next to Craft Centre is The Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur.
