Dilemma - Resign or Wait for Redundancy ?

I would take the new role, it is by far the safest option. If you decided to change jobs of your off your own back at any point then your current firm would have given you nothing, so don't look at the redundancy as something you "should" be given, its a worst case scenario in any language.... Take the new job you will enjoy, and enjoy the fact you will not be unemployed for any amount of time! The Head Honcho (does very little work)0

Sorry to add another aspect to your thoughts on this.
How stable is the company that you've offered a job by? Are there any redundancy rumours there?
I know a few people who have switched jobs recently, only to quickly fall into a redundancy situation at the new company.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

The problem is with garden leave you can't start the new job they would have to give you PILON.
If that and any redundancy payment is just 3 months then too risky its not that much.
If you are at risk then what consultation is going on, this should be on going and active to identify how the company can mitigate the impact of redundancies.
I would not tell them you have a job but get some active consultation under way to push them to make progress.
If there is no consultation then they are just trying to loose people by getting them to leave.
when is your annaversay date to clock up another years service?0 -
I was made reduant this year back in feb and its not nice for anyone to face.So i do feel for you.
Its a tricky situation when facing reduancy because you feel the need to try and find another job as soon as possible. I would stay with it until they make you reduant and collect all payments that are due to you if its a large sum.If you leave before and take the new job it might fall through then you have lost the reduancy money.
stay there and take everything thats entitled to you dont lose it.
7 months after i was made reduant i finally got accepted for a job today0 -
I was in a similar position to yourself and I know exactly how you feel. luckily my new employer held on for 6 months for me to start. 4 months into my new job and yes you've guessed it they announced a redundancy. So be aware that your new employer may not be any more stable than your current one. The days of treating people with integrity are well and truly over, my previous employer took on new staff (permanant) who left stable jobs, to then be told that the company is closing down just 1 month after they started.
My advice to you is do as much homework as posible on your new employer, try and speak to people who work there to find out whether they have had any job losses over the last couple of years? Are they investing in the business? are they expanding? whats the order book now? what did they turn over last year? what is there expected turnover this year and next? don't be afraid to grill them.
I made the decision to take redundancy before taking my new job. I put my cards on the table with my new employer and they fully understood the predicament I was in, I basically asked the question can you guarantee that there will be no job losses in the next couple of years? of course they could not. If you are the person they want for the future, then waiting a couple of months should be no problem to them. If they have got a dozen people lined up for your potential role then that should tell you to stay put and get your redundancy pay. Only you can be the person who makes the decision. So I wish you all the very best for the future and good luck!!!!!!!!0 -
Another option now you have the offer is to ask for a severence package for any reason to match the redundancy you would get from your cuurent employer or for the old service to be counted in their enhanced redundancy package.0
