First thing to try would probably be to get hold of a CD/DVD lens cleaning disc and run that through.0

Will do that asap.
Hope it works, don't fancy an expensive repair bill!!
Thanks0 -
Like all things, I'm afraid it is at your own risk.
But the player doesn't sound all that useable at present.
Is it an all-singing, all-dancing DVD player? reason I ask is that you can get em for around the £20 mark nowadays - so I would question the cost of repairs. I tend to regard DVD players as a throwaway item these days.0 -
Might seem daft but have you checked that the cables are securely plugged in at the back of the player? If one of the cables is connecting intermittently (SCART plugs are notorious for coming loose) the act of opening and closing the drawer to access the DVD for cleaning might make or break the connection, making you think that cleaning it was making a difference. Might be worth trying a different lead too, just in case the cable is faulty. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.

Its a sony all singing and all dancing one!!
I haven't checked the cables actually, i'll try that and see if it works, i might just replace them actually as they were really cheap ones that came with the dvd player.
Can cleaning the head damage it? as i think i read on another thread that it damaged sombody's player.
Thanks0 -
Yes its possible, it all depends on the quality of the cleaning kit. I certainly wouldn't use something that I bought at the local market for 99p.....
Try the cables as suggested above, its quite likely to be the problem. He huihuinga taangata he pukenga whakaaro – A meeting of people; a wellspring of ideas (Maori proverb)0 -
